Questions we get asked

What is Japandi lighting?

A style built on plain forms, matt natural textures and soft, low-glare light: travertine, wood, linen, paper and pale resin rather than gloss and chrome. Warm 2700K bulbs and dimmers finish the look.

What is the difference between Japandi and wabi-sabi?

We use Japandi for calm, clean-lined pieces and wabi-sabi for pieces that celebrate irregular texture, such as raw concrete or pitted stone. Most rooms mix the two happily.

What size ceiling light do I need?

Add the room's length and width in metres and multiply by 8 for a starting diameter in centimetres: a 4 × 3.5 m living room gives 60 cm. Below about 2.4 m, go smaller or flush.

Which colour temperature suits a Japandi room?

2700K in living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms, and 3000K in kitchens and bathrooms. Keep one temperature per layer so the room reads as calm.

How high should a pendant hang over a dining table?

Keep 75–85 cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade, centred on the table rather than the room.

Are stone-effect lights real stone?

No. Our stone-effect shades are moulded resin with a stone finish, which keeps large sizes light to hang. Real travertine pieces say travertine or natural stone in the Material row.
